April 26, 2013 - Assistant Superintendent Position

The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Water Department is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and will accept applications for the position of Assistant Superintendent until Friday May 10, 2013. Responsibilities for the position include directing the operations and maintenance of the municipal water supply, treatment and distribution system and serving as the secondary licensed operator and cross connection control coordinator of the District’s water system. Qualified applicants may have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business administration or a related field and seven years of experience in water systems operation and maintenance, two years of which involve supervisory responsibilities or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Drinking Water D3 and T1 full licenses, Mass. DEP backflow prevention device tester/surveyor certification and Class D motor vehicle license are required. Incumbent must establish residency within a fifteen (15) mile radius of the Town of Barnstable within one year of the date of hire. Salary to commensurate with experience. 2012 - 2013 WATER RATE STUDY

    A complete analysis of the water rate structure will be conducted this fiscal year by an independent consultant. Rates must be adjusted to pay the cost of improvements including debt service and increased monitoring, operation and maintenance costs. The last adjustment occurred in 2003. Any adjustments necessary would take effect July 1, 2013.

     Many of the concerns from our customer have been heard and noted, we would welcome any additional input from the community. We meet the first Wednesday of the month or contact us at 508-428-6691.

    The Safe Drinking Water Act enacted in 1974, has affected every public water system. The EPA promulgated Nation Drinking Water Standards which have been modified to address the ever expanding knowledge scientist have gained about our drinking water. Subsequent amendments to the act have lead to an increase in the cost to operate and maintain public water systems and ultimately, and increase in the rates customers pay to meet the expenses. LEAK DETECTION SURVEY

A leak detection sure is being conducted over the next few months. You may see a technician accessing our valves and hydrants to indentify any leaks throughout the system.
