C-O-MM WATER USERS IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE TO C-O-MM WATER USERS: OLD STAGE ROAD TANK PROJECT- JANUARY 2011 THE NEW 1.5 M GALLON TANK IS NOW IN SERVICE BENEFITING ALL C-O-M.M. RESIDENTS WITH THE ADDITIONAL CAPACITY TO PROVIDE THE EQUALIZATION STORAGE NECESSARY FOR A GRAVITY SYSTEM WHICH INCREASES SYSTEM WIDE RELIABILITY ESPECIALLY DURING EMERGENCIES AND PEAK DEMAND PERIODS. THE ADDITIONAL STORAGE CAPACITY PROVIDES LONGER “REST PERIODS” FOR OUR PUMPING EQUIPMENT AND THE WELLS WILL BENEFIT FROM INCREASED RECHARGE TIME BETWEEN START UP CYCLES. INCREASED STORAGE “IN THE AIR” WILL ALSO ALLOW SOME OPERATIONAL FLEXIBILITY TO PUMP MORE EFFICIENTLY AND PROVIDE REDUNDANCY DURING EMERGENCIES AND MAINTENANCE EVENTS. WE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN OBTAINING FINANCING THROUGH THE AMERICAN RESPONSE & RECOVERY ACT (ARRA) WITH 20% FORGIVENESS OF THE PRINCIPLE WHICH SAVED $663,000. OUR DEBT MANAGEMENT EFFORTS SHOULD ALLOW REPAYMENT OF THE 2% INTEREST LOAN WHILE MAINTAINING OUR CURRENT WATER RATES. THE DEMOLITION OF THE OLD TANK WILL BE PERFORMED IN EARLY SPRING. THE $3.085 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT WILL BE COMPLETED AS SCHEDULED AND UNDER THE BID PRICE. THE GEOGRAPHIC MARKER AND SYMBOL OF COMMUNITY PRIDE WILL PROVIDE DECADES OF RELIABLE SERVICE TO OUR TWELVE THOUSAND SERVICE CONNECTIONS. WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE ABUTTING NEIGHBORS AND OUR CUSTOMERS FOR THEIR PATIENCE & APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE OF THE PROJECT. AS OF Friday January 7, 2011, the C-O-MM Water Department will allow a small dosage (1 part per million or less), of chlorinated water into the system. The chlorine was used to disinfect the new tank which will be brought online. The water is safe and this is NOT being done to correct any problems but as a precautionary measure. This chlorinating is being done on a temporary basis only and is the residual amount that is the result of the disinfection process of the new water storage tank which is being put into service. We anticipate that any chlorine taste & odor that may be noticeable will dissipate within a short period of time. Customers who are Sensitive to a slight chlorine taste & odor may wish to set aside some non-chlorinated water for their use prior to the start date. Residents can fill a jug with water and leave the cap off, place in the fridge over night and the chlorine should dissipate. The areas in close proximity to the tank, specifically Old Stage Road, Route 28, and Main Street will be most noticeable. Some other sections of Centerville may also be affected to a lesser extent. The C-O-MM Water Department apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the support of the District residents in our attempt to supply safe, reliable & affordable water to all of our customers. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the C-O-MM Water Department Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. at 428-6691 or visit commwater.com.
