WATER RATES

After a comprehensive rate study, and public hearings, the COMM Board of Water Commissioners voted to adjust the annual minimum charge from $60.00 to $70.00. Which will be billed semi-annually. These adjustments will be effective July 1, 2002. The modest rate adjustments should keep the Department on a sound financial footing, and allow for necessary improvements to the system.

$35.00 Minimum for 20,000 gallons per six months.

(Customers are allowed to use 20,000 gallons for six months without an excess charge)

    This $35.00 minimum charged is billed  semi-annually (every six months). In advance, see example:

•         January's bill - minimum charge $35.00 covers January - June and excess 
•         July's bill - minimum charge $35.00 covers July - December and excess

Excess is any usage over 20,000 gallons for the six-month period

Either Jan - June or July - Dec.

Excess Charge     $2.90 is billed per 1,000 gallons from 21,000 to 200,000 gallons

                              $3.95 is billed per 1,000 gallons from 201,000 and over

                  Example: July's Bill = $107.50

                        Customer used 45 thousand gallons

                                Minimum charge for July - September     = $35.00

                                Excess charge for January - June             = $72.50

                                                                            Total           =$107.50

To figure out excess charge:

Total gallons used 45 thousand gallons

Minus minimum allowed 20 thousand gallons

        Equals Excess usage of 25 thousand gallons

25 (gallons)  x 2.90 (charge per 1,000 gal. excess)  =   $72.50 + $35.00(minimum charge) = $107.50
